Exam Score Report

I took my Family and Consumer Sciences composite exam through AAFCS on March 29, 2014. My bachelor degree is Development and Family Studies, which is very similar to Family and Consumer Science, but it did not include many courses in the hospitality, textiles and apparel, and environmental design areas. Therefore, I studied as much as I could in those areas and for this exam. I also did a lot of studying in the other areas because it had been a while since I had taken courses with that content. I purchased a practice guide and began studying. I was very disciplined in my studies, and it definitely paid off when I passed the exam on March 29, 2014. This exam covers so many areas, and sometimes it is hard to know exactly how to study for it. Because I did not have many courses in some of the topics, taking this exam was very intimidating for me; however, I passed the exam and now feel competent to teach students in these areas.

I took my Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) EC-12 exam on June 7, 2014. I am very confident to say that all of my coursework that I have completed thus far in the MAT program prepared me very well for this exam, and I am pleased with the score that I received. To prepare for this exam, I completed multiple practice exams and even read the PPR preparation manual, and I would recommend this study method to other students preparing for their PPR exams as well.

My score on the FSC composite exam was good enough to pass, but there are definitely areas that I can improve. I always try to prepare before doing anything, and every time that I prepare to teach, I always study and make sure that I know the material. This helps to ensure that I am current and correct on all of my knowledge in order to teach my students. I will continue to read and study in the areas that I need improvement. I feel that my score on my PPR EC-12 exam was really great, but there is definitely room for improvement here as well. Observing and talking with other educators, attending professional development seminars, and reading/studying are ways that I can continue to improve my knowledge base.
