Resume

This assignment helped me to discover that the experiences that I have are very beneficial to my future teaching career, even though not many of them have been in a school setting until recently. Before returning to school to pursue my master’s degree and teaching career, I always felt very confident in my resume because it effectively showcased my experiences within the nonprofit world. While creating my resume for this assignment, however, I was a little nervous because I was not sure that it would show much experience with teaching; to my surprise, I discovered that my experiences (even before beginning the MAT program) are a great representation of who I am, what I have to offer, and do show that I have teaching experience and knowledge.

This assignment was a requirement for EDUC 5133, and I am so very thankful that it was. My professor encouraged us to think outside the box and utilize any experience that we thought would help us in a teaching career. She encouraged us to take risks and provided feedback on the assignment before it was actually due. I learned to only include the meaningful experience that I have had that is relevant to teaching - all other experiences not relevant to teaching should be excluded. I learned that my resume should be a clear representation of who I am and what I have done that is relevant to the teaching field, while making sure that it is not too long and overwhelming for the reader. I also learned that your resume must be continually updated in order to stay as current as possible. In fact, I have had to update my resume several times since creating it in the Spring. I truly believe that this item helps to demonstrate my achievement of Proficiency One.
